A New Year means another exciting season of the PBR Bull Team Challenge!
In February, a team will cost you $40,000, but if you wait until September it will be $75,000. Some changes for the second year of the competition include the number of bulls on a team. Each team will have three bulls and two alternates, and one of those alternates may be chosen as late as July 1. Any team entered after July must submit all five members at the same time. Teams will also only compete at three events this season, making for a lot less hauling for the animals. Also, in consideration of the distances the contractors have to travel, the events have been scheduled so there are three in the West, three in the East and three in the “middle” of the country. Also for 2009, you may choose any five bulls you like (as long as you own them or have the owner's permission), regardless of how they are ranked. The bulls just must be ABBI registered and 4 years of age. There can be no bull trades or substitutions once the five members have been chosen. Last year's $250,000 champion D&H will be back in 2009, as will reserve champion Lone Star Bulls. Look for a complete list of teams next Bull Pen, and be prepared to see the deepest list of top-notch bucking talent ever assembled on teams. Another interesting change for this season is that if you want to put together a team and compete at just one event you can. For $3,000 you can enter a single event (your fee and list of bulls must be submitted and approved two weeks prior to the event). That fee goes toward the pot in Las Vegas. If you decide after participating in a single event that you want to continue, you must pay whatever the team fee is at that time. | Event | Date | | Oklahoma City, Okla. | Feb 13-15

The Worchester PBR Bull Team Challenge was short on quantity but big on quality. Only two bull teams made the trek to the event outside of Boston, but both made the most of the opportunity for the competition held during the Built Ford Tough Series event. |

Eight teams came to compete at the fourth PBR Bull Team Challenge event of the season. Held during the Built Ford Tough Series Ty Murray Invitational, it was a competition deep in talent. With 10 of the team bulls (and 31 BFTS bulls) earning scores of 45 or better, it was going to take a big team score to win. Not surprisingly, it was Chad Berger’s Mandan Mafia that got the job done for their second win of the season. |

The fourth PBR Bull Team event of the season took place in Birmingham, Ala. on March 14-15. Five teams were entered and the one that emerged victorious, and $10,000 richer, was Mandan Mafia. In the championship round Ryan McConnel rode Say I Won’t for 90.5 points in the short go, assisting him in his first Built Ford Tough Series event win. Zack Brown couldn’t make the whistle on Big Tex and All In dumped Aussie Pete Farley. |
