Dillon and Paul Sparks, Errol Klein and Cody Whitfield.Oka Lusa Rodeo Stock may be a small, family-run operation on a tight budget, but they’re building a big reputation. Paul and Gail Sparks don’t necessarily want to be one of the “big boys”—they just want to play in the same arena.

Paul Sparks has spent most of his life around rodeo. He first started in the industry when he was 13 and came up fighting bulls on the circuit. He met Gail, his wife of 42 years, at a rodeo and married her five months later.

First, Tino Martinez came to the U.S. when he was just 15 years old. Now, Tino and his son Edward are enjoying success in the PBR with Martinez Bucking Bulls.

Langford cartoon When you think of dentistry, you probably don’t think it applies to your favorite horse or a world champion bucking bull. ABBI breeder Joshua Chavez is out to change the way people care for their animal athletes.

Chavez’s love of rodeo livestock started when he began riding steers at 8 years of age. He rode his first bull in a junior rodeo when he was 11 and turned pro after getting his PRCA card at 18. Bull riding put him through college on a full scholarship but after enough buckoffs, his interest moved more toward breeding rather than riding.

Craig, Myles, Kelly, Mandi, Dillon, Heath, Ryan, Landon and TiffanyIn the Spring of 2004, Cross E Bucking Bulls was born. Craig Ellis, along with his sons Heath and Ryan, purchased three cows at the D&H Bred to Buck Sale. Just five years later, they had a champion.

Back in Ardmore, Okla. almost to the day of the anniversary that they had purchased those first Page cows, Cross E won the first ABBI American Heritage Derby. Picking up a check for over $42,000 for the 91-point score of their 3-year-old bull 602 Ricochet seemed like a dream.
