The competition was fierce all season long among the 22 bull teams, but the ultimate champion emerged after the first three rounds of the PBR World Finals. D&H/Enlow/Gilbert edged out the competition by just a quarter of a point, but that margin of victory was worth $250,000.
In second and third were Lone Star Bulls and Yankton Express. During the regular season, Lone Star had $60,000 in total earnings, Yankton Express won $50,000 and D&H/Enlow/Gilbert won $45,000.
“During those first few days in Vegas, I was as nervous as I have ever been,” confessed D&H’s H.D. Page. “I knew we could win if every bull had its day, but I have yet to go to an event and have all five buck to their potential. I feel fortunate and blessed that we came out on top.”
Showtime, who also won the Wild Card Classic and finished third overall in the Classic Finals, really came through for the team. His 46.25 helped to cement the first-place win. The other members of the winning D&H/Enlow/Gilbert team with a combined score of 223 were Ricky Bobby (45.25), Crazy Train (43.25), Super Duty (aka Hustler, 44.5) and Jacob's Pet (43.75).
The stand-out stars for Lone Star were Avalanche who tied for the highest mark of all the team bulls with a 46.5. Teammate Nasty Mike earned a big 45.25. For Yankton Express, Copperhead Slinger earned a 45.75 while Bad Action was 45.25.
PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert hand-picks all the bulls that buck at the PBR World Finals to ensure they are the best in the world. That meant that some bull teams were at a disadvantage if five of their team members weren't selected as World Finals bulls, while other teams had no members selected. Injuries also took a toll, eliminating some bulls who could have been picked .
The Tom and Jerry Show bucked with four bulls, The Vikings with three and South Point with two. The importance of drafting top-notch talent was illustrated loud and clear in Las Vegas—if you didn't pick a solid team to start with, you weren't going to finish the season on top.
4C's Bucking Bulls and Training won $60,000 during the course of the regular bull team competitions and would have been near the top if not for a re-ride on their star Carrillo Cartel. It was an uncharacteristic trip for Carrillo Cartel; in fact Chris Shivers opted to get on Carrillo Cartel again for his re-ride and posted an 89.75. Unfortunately, with the bull teams, only the first out counts and Carrillo Cartels’ original score of 40.75 knocked them down to 10th. Alex Naccarato's All In provided 4C's with their highest score, a 46.5.
Other high-scoring bulls were Nervous Waters (a 45.25 for Ron White's Comedy Tour), Lightning McQueen and Camo (a 45 and a 45.5 respectively for Boyd-FloydBullCo.com), Hot Stuff (a 46.5 for Page/Haines), Chicken on a Chain (45.25 for Nafzger's Wrangler Bull team), What I Say ( a 45 for Big Machine), and Big Bucks (a 45.75 for The Tom and Jerry Show). |
