Forget color, cut, clarity and carats. When it comes to the four Cs, all you need to know is that the 4 C’s Bucking Bulls team has the really valuable “gems.”
At the second PBR Bull Team event of the season, it was 4 C’s that came out on top with 223.25 points. The win was worth $20,000 and moved them in front of Northern Exposure by just a quarter of a point. Northern Exposure’s 223 puts them tied for second in the overall standings. The Winston-Salem PBR Bull Team winner, The Tom and Jerry Show, also has a score of 223.
“It feels good!” said an animated Gilbert Carrillo of his team’s victory. “My whole team is so excited — my partners that are here and those who are at home watching it on TV. We are all stoked!”
Six teams came to compete at the Honda Center, during the three-day Built Ford Tough Series Anaheim Open. All but two of the short go bulls belonged to a team, making the action intense until the very last bull bucked.
“I’m very excited and happy and looking forward to the next event,” shared Carrillo. “I got to see all the other guys’ bulls and decide which bulls I am going to replace (with an alternate) and I’m going to come up with a strategy.”

| Northern Exposure was the only team with the distinction of having all five members of their squad chosen by Cody Lambert to be in the short go. War Zone (45), Northern Chill (45.75), North Star (44.75), Rez Boy (43.5) and Dr. Proctor (43.75) came up just short of first place. If Dr. Proctor had a typical trip — he averages 44.5 points — they would have been able to move into the lead.
A 47.5 scored by God’s Gift helped the South Point team secure the third place finish. The great Kish bull, who was the ABBI’s 2006 Champion, had the highest score of the event. White Magic, part of the Diamond G team, earned a 47 in the short go and the 2007 ABBI Champion Troubadour earned a 46.25 in the same round for the Moreno/Exclusive Genetics.com team.
Gilbert and wife Julie have assembled a solid team, but it definitely involved a lot of planning, and even some recruiting, to come up with such a competitive group. “I went out looking for the very best bulls for our team,” stressed Carrillo. “I have a handful of bulls that are our own that are very good bulls. They are ‘cowboy bulls,’ the kind that I’d want to get on. They are not eliminators, they are ‘come-and-ride-me-if-you-can.’ “
“They jump and spin and buck,” explained Gilbert of his decision to have a team that is a mixture of bulls owned by 4 C’s and their partners, as well as two bulls from other stock contractors. “I’m real tickled with what we’ve got. Two of our bulls, which are also team bulls, took guys to scores in the 90s this weekend.”
Alex Naccarato’s All In and Jason Diedrich’s JR’s Jacket are the two non-4 C’s bulls on the team. All In and Jersey Joe were the 4 C’s team bulls in the short go. All In was scored 45.25 and Jersey Joe a 44.5.
“You’ve got to have the best eight bulls for a team and that is hard to find. With five bulls and three alternates, I think it is really great because we can move bulls in and out as we need to. It is like a football team — if you know your bulls pretty well, you know who needs to be rested or who is sore. So you stick someone else in for them. It is a team concept, so everybody works together,” Carrillo explained. Carrillo Cartel (44.75), Little Bo (44.25) and Devil’s Night (44.5) were the other three bull team members that contributed to the 4 C’s victory in Anaheim.
The team concept is also important to Carrillo because it echoes what he values and appreciates in his business partners. “We co-own bulls with so many different people, and we love it because it gives so many people from all over the country a chance to get involved with the industry.” Whether it be a team of bulls or a team of people, 4 C’s is about coming together to build success.
“I’m tickled to death. It feels like I just won the bull riding!” said the former PBR star. Carrillo gave an emotional interview after his team’s victory. “I was choking up when I got on the mic, you’d think that I was the guy who won by getting on the bulls!” |
